good news and a riddle :c)

Wed Jun 8, 2005, 2:37 AM
Don't know where I'm going,
Don't know where I'm heading.
I just hope I get there in one piece.

so i have my flights booked...
and i didnt even know it.
what happened was the airline company took $100 off my account to reserve the flight, and the rest of the money gets taken off 4 weeks before my departure date...sweet..
so that should be ok as long as my work doesnt screw me over with my money.

otherwise i will be pissed off.

but yeah...im happy bout that. :) i now know when im flying out to CT again...yay. :boogie:

i wanted to kill my dog yesterday...i came home from a hard days work..and made myself some food...go to the bathroom to come back to my food missing.....

MY DOG ATE IT!!!
lil bastard.....-_-....
oh well...i just ended up making more food.

now here's a riddle for you all.

3 men go to a restaurant for a meal. They end up each paying $30 total between them, each giving a $10 to the waiter. The waiter takes the money to the head waiter who says that the 3 men have been overcharged; the meal was a total of $25. He gives $5 to the waiter and tells him to give the money back to the 3 men.
The waiter thinks to himself "well they dont know how much theyve been overcharged by, so im gonna keep $2 for myself and just give $3 back." so each man gets $1 back each.
So the question is,
how much did each man spend that night?
The obvious answer would be $9 because each guy gave $10 each and recieved $1 back.
However if you do $9x3(men) it comes to a total of $27 PLUS the $2 the waiter kept to himself which =$29...so where did the other $1 disappear to??

if you know give your answers.

and no there is no prize for the winner...
i just heard this riddle the other day and im not quite sure if ive gotten it figured or not...
would love to hear what other people have to say to it...

enjoy.

Why do people take by force what they could obtain by love?
well that's odd.. I dont think there is an answer. Maybe it's just how the math is added up? (shrugs) but that's interesting
it can keep you occupied for a while. :)
Too... many... numbers...

*brain sizzle*
The reasoning at the end of the riddle is misleading. The bill changed in the riddle from $30 to $25, so each man was no longer paying the same amount, two men were paying 8 and one was paying 9 and that 9th dollar is the "missing one". It took me like thirty minutes of playing with 30 little scraps of paper to figure it out.

true..however though the men dont know that the bill is $25, they think its $30 so when they each get $1 back, they are then each paying $9 each because they each get $1 back. therefore the bill to them is $27.

I think i have the riddle figured out though.

Each man pays $9 each....X3=$27

So now minus the $2 that the waiter kept gets them back to $25...
i think i was looking at it the wrong way.

Now of course each individual would pay around $8.33 each.
but thats another story.

I think that makes sense....at least it does to me...
but that never means much.
Thanks for your input on the riddle though :D
You're welcome, and I'm pretty sure you're right about the 8.33 per man thing. but I could be wrong, I've never been good at math in school, much less so during the summer
